AI is slowly gaining ground compared to fixed mathematical models. Machine learning techniques embedded within the wireless devices’ hardware will improve frequency utilization, and the devices will select its own spectrum usage strategies. Environment start-ups use AI to track global deforestation, monitor thawing permafrost in the Arctic and prevent natural gas leaks. Utility and energy retailers use AI to properly forecast in term of uncertainty such as what we are living right now. Microsoft has identified a way to accurately identify and prioritize critical bugs 99 percent of the time.

In the meantime, the Vatican,  Microsoft and IBM jointly promote the ethical development of artificial intelligence and regulation of invasive technologies such as Computer Vision. MIT has terminated a research collaboration with iFlytek, a Chinese AI company accused of supplying technology for surveilling Muslims. This follows an increase scrutiny of collaborations with China, Russia and Saudi Arabia.

Google is testing algorithms based on Darwinian evolution. Carnegie Mellon is making progress on helping people controlling their prosthetic devices with their thoughts. And Apple released CoreML to help developer program and deploy AI on IOS. MIT is also focusing its effort AI model training efficiency.
